For your first visit the only things that are required are tracksuit bottoms, a t-shirt and you! Karate is practiced bare foot so no fancy footwear is required. If nerves are a problem for the first visit then never fear. You are in good hands with our instructors who will assist you in everything you need in your first class. We pride ourselves on our classes having a friendly atmosphere.

Classes are pay as you go, with no direct debits or contracts to fill in.

We welcome all students young, old and at any level of experience or fitness, some students will find some parts easy and others not so easy but it is possible for everyone to do karate, it just takes time, practice and a commitment to regular training and attendance. As Karate is from Japan the counting, names and commands are in Japanese, which can seem confusing at first but soon becomes normal.

Your Karate Journey

If you find that you enjoy karate and intend to stay at the club you should wear a karate suit (called a Gi), normally available in all sizes from your instructor. There are also a wide range of books to help you learn the syllabus and various other pieces of karate equipment available.

There are regular ability tests every three months that are called gradings. If students wish to get their different coloured karate belts then they can take part. The belts colours are Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Brown and then Black. It can take at least 5 to 8 years to get to black belt.

Regular competitions are held locally where it is possible to win trophies, medals and certificates.

In the summer we hold a local Summer Camp at Kearsney, near Dover. This has been a hugely successful event for over 10 years with lots of karate, food and fun for all the family.

We look forward to welcoming you to our karate family!
