IKK at the 2018 BKK Severn Challenge
A 15 strong squad from the IKK Folkestone Karate Club competed in the BKK Severn Challenge 2018, held in Cardiff, Wales on Saturday the 8th September. This was a junior and cadet mixed discipline competition with kata, knockdown and clicker fighting.
It was the first time we had been invited to this event, and the very first time we had put together a team for a kata competiton, everyone did amazingly well against some fierce competition and we were immensely proud to both be invited and of everyone who took part.
The competition started with the kata, with Ronnie Price, Rudy Price, Chani Barnes, Jacob Shafe all performing superbly on high grade “Area A” and with Sabia Brice, who performed far above her grade, on Area “B”.
The next round was the clicker component with young Kadi Brice having the honour of being the first member of the clicker Squad to compete, followed by Charlie Gay and Nieve Sorge on Area B, then Danielle Mills, Rudi Price and Callum Chapman on Area A, with Callum taking 3rd place in his category.
The final component was the knockdown section, with Morgan Cousins and Cody Chapman coming 3rd in the boys under 14 section in their respective weight categories.
In the under 16 section girls competition, Chani Barnes came 1st with Imogen Byrne taking 2nd place.
In the Cadet Boys Heavyweight Knockdown, Harry Clemo claimed victory for the IKK.
The event was a huge learning experience for all of us and the overall standard was exceptional with spirited competing from all involved, we couldn’t have been prouder of all of our competitors for stepping onto the mat, Osu!
